History of Ferguson Apiaries
Home

1972- Bill took over an already established Apiary.

Every year he imported queens. As time went on Bill noticed the quality of imported queens wasn't there.

1988- was the last year he imported queens. At that point they were being purchased from New Zealand and Australia. These bees had a higher swarming rate, more aggressive and not as hygenic.

1990 - Bill brought in Buckfast Stock to the operation. The change was noticeable.

  • The bees were quiet & not aggressive!!

  • They were gentle

  • Smaller winter clusters

  • Low tendency to swarm

  • Test results were good for trachea

  • Hygenic tests were also higher

Working along with other Buckfast breeders and the Ontario Beekeepers Association we have been able to maintain a high quality stock .

We continue to get test's done on the queens and our breeding hives in order to advance in the breeding industry. This enables us to sell an excellent caliber of stock.
